Nawroz University Participates in High-Level Infectious Diseases Delegation to the University of Cologne

Nawroz University took part in a distinguished academic delegation to the University of Cologne, Germany, held from September 30 to October 1, 2025. The delegation included Dr. Muayad Aghali Merza, Professor of Infectious Diseases at the College of Medicine and Vice President for Scientific Affairs, who joined alongside representatives from the University of Duhok.
The visit focused on strengthening international collaboration in the field of infectious diseases, with special emphasis on antimicrobial stewardship, HIV management, and advanced strategies to combat epidemic threats in the Duhok governorate.
During a plenary session, Dr. Merza highlighted the challenges of infectious diseases in Kurdistan, stressing the urgent need for comprehensive antibiotic stewardship programs and the importance of enhancing clinical infectious diseases services at both the University of Duhok and Nawroz University in cooperation with Cologne experts. As Vice President for Scientific Affairs, he underscored Nawroz University’s dedication to fostering international academic partnerships and advancing public health in Kurdistan through evidence-based approaches.
This collaboration between Nawroz University, the University of Duhok, and the University of Cologne reflects a shared vision of strengthening health systems, advancing research, and preparing future leaders in the field of infectious diseases across Kurdistan and beyond.
